The 15th Most Poptastic Single of 2011

Who knew Beyoncé lived in a barn?
Released: 1st June

Trivia: When this song was first recorded it was more upbeat and 90s-influenced. You can hear the original version here.
Best bits: 1. Thank God I found the good in goodbye, I used to want you so BA-AD!
2. I guess it sucks to be you right now
3. What goes around comes back around (hey, my baby)

Darren Hayes – Bloodstained Heart
Could have written title in blood – poor effort
Released: 5th Sept
Writer: Darren Hayes, Carl Falk
Trivia: Bizarrely, this song was only a single in Australia, and has so far not been released in the UK apart from as part of the album. Why Darren, why???
Best bits: 1. Even when you fall apart, I’ll pick up your bloodstained heart, and darling I’ll follow you down to the ground
2. Oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh oh-oh
3. You hit me like a subway train and I will never be the same
The 13th Most Poptastic Single of 2011
Didn’t know September was a girlband!
Released: 11th July
Writers: Wayne Hector, Lucas Secon, Daniel Davidsen, Peter Wallevik, Mich Hansen
Trivia: Since this track, along with the album’s lead single Resuscitate Me, was written by the same people who wrote Get Outta My Way for Kylie, it’s extremely likely that these tracks were originally meant for Miss Minogue too. Although it’s great that September gets to record such poptastic songs, I wonder how big this could have been with Kylie at the helm.
Best bits: 1. I don’t care if the whole club is dead, cos the party’s in my head, the party’s in my head
2. I don’t care about the VIP, cos every single DJ is inside me
3. I’m on a train again, jammin’ on my own again, they think I’m insane, there’s no music playin’
The 12th Most Poptastic Single of 2011
A future where Vans are the only shoes
Released: 19th June
Writers: Miranda Cooper, Ant Whiting, Soundgirl
Trivia: I only discovered the original of this song via Soundgirl. Until then I thought Danish popstar Natasha Thomas’ version was the first.
Best bits: 1. Why does your love hurt so much?
2. Ladi-dadi-da ladi-dadi-da, ladi-dadi-da ladi-dadi-da
3. I wake up and baby I’ve been dreaming about the way you make me smile, now everything you do just leaves me (wondering) wondering (wondering) wondering why
The 11th Most Poptastic Single of 2011
Is that Little Mix?
Released: 24th June
Writers: Teddy Park
Trivia: If there’s one thing I love in music it’s unabashed egotism. This is the best ego-pop track since Velvet’s The Queen. Read the translated I Am The Best lyrics here.
Best bits: 1. Naega jeil jal naga (translation: I am the best)
2. Oh ma gawd!
3. Bam Ratatata Tatatatata
